How To Prepare for Labor

How To Prepare for Labor

Here is exactly what I would do to prepare for labor after learning from having three kids.

Regularly see a Webster certified chiropractor, this will significantly help labor as well as recovery.

Eat 6 dates per day starting around 32 weeks (smoothies were easiest for me, also try date candy with chocolate and nuts, I liked Dorrel brand) Why? Eating dates in the last few weeks of pregnancy can help prepare the body for labor by promoting cervical ripening, supporting uterine contractions, and providing sustained energy.

Drink 1 cup of red raspberry leaf tea per day starting at 28 weeks; at 36 weeks, increase to 2-3 cups per day. Why? Studies show that Raspberry Leaf tea can lead to shorter, smoother labor.

Move your body at least 30 min every day: walk, swim, yoga, etc.

80-100 grams of protein per day, preferably warm, soft and cooked

Strengthening Qi and Blood: Traditional Chinese Medicine says childbirth depletes qi (vital energy) and blood, so expectant mothers should nourish both in the third trimester. Foods to eat for this include dates, goji berries, black sesame seeds, lean meats, bone broth, sweet potatoes, brown rice, oats.

Acupuncture and acupressure is a great way to promote relaxation and prepare the body for labor. Acupuncture was so helpful for me in offering relief and progressing labor. Excessive stress or fear can inhibit labor and make labor more difficult, so seeing an acupuncturist, meditating, or seeing a provider for NET can be extremely helpful to help the mind and body feel at ease, and encouraged a sense of calmness.
