Easy Passport Guide for Your Kids
We just got the boys their passports for our upcoming Europe trip and it was actually pretty easy once we knew what to do. Here are the exact steps you’ll take and what you need to know!
Step 1: You need BOTH; an original birth certificate as well as a COPY of the birth certificate.
Step 2: Make an appointment at your local USPS store that has a passport center. The photos will be taken here, just make sure you add that to your appointment when you are scheduling online.
Step 3: You will bring the following checklist to your appointment:
-
Both parents drivers license
-
Original birth certificate
-
Copy of birth certificate
-
Personal check book
Passports take about 9 weeks to receive, so plan accordingly. If expedited, it is an additional fee of $60 and will take about 3 weeks.
You will need a personal check written out to “US Department of State” with your child’s name and date of birth in the memo.
A passport is $100, expedited fee is $60, photo fee is $15, and there is a $35 post office fee.
Save this to refer back to and send to a traveling family!
