Here is exactly what I would do to prepare for labor after learning from having three kids: Things To Do and What To Take: Throughout Pregnancy: Regularly see a Webster certified chiropractor, this will significantly help labor as well as recovery. Throughout Pregnancy: Move your body at least 30 min every day: walk, swim, yoga, stretch etc. Throughout Pregnancy: Staying well hydrated and well mineralized, my favorite minerals HERE Around 32 Weeks: Start to eat about 6 dates per day (smoothies were easiest for me and I'd also eat date candy with chocolate and nuts, like THESE) Eating dates in the last few weeks of pregnancy can help prepare the body for labor by promoting cervical ripening, supporting uterine contractions, and providing sustained energy. Around 35 weeks: Drink 2-3 cups per day of Red Raspberry Leaf Tea. Studies show that Raspberry Leaf tea can lead to shorter, smoother labor. You'll see many blends of pre-labor prep tinctures with multiple ingredients in a bottle. I'm not a huge fan of this; not only is the efficacy and quality typically lower in these, they're usually packed with glycerin and alcohol. I opt for single ingredient teas like the one mentioned above, or making my own like the one below. My favorite pre birth drink option is Dr. GreenMom's LaborAde Tea. Find details and recipe HERE. Throughout but definitely in third trimester: 80-100 grams of protein per day, preferably warm, soft and cooked Throughout but definitely in third trimester: Focus on strengthening Qi and Blood. Traditional Chinese Medicine says childbirth depletes qi (vital energy) and blood, so expectant mothers should nourish both in the third trimester. Foods to eat for this include dates, goji berries, black sesame seeds, lean meats, bone broth, sweet potatoes, brown rice, oats. Throughout and to help induce labor naturally: Acupuncture and acupressure is a great way to promote relaxation and prepare the body for labor. Acupuncture was so helpful for me in offering relief and progressing labor. Excessive stress or fear can inhibit labor and make labor more difficult, so seeing an acupuncturist, meditating, or seeing a provider for NET can be extremely helpful to help the mind and body feel at ease, and encouraged a sense of calmness. Remember that I am not a doctor and this is my own personal opinion of what I would do personal for myself. Always consult our physician.
