When choosing a sleep sack for your baby, the TOG value is an important factor to understand. TOG measures the warmth and insulation level of the fabric, helping parents select the most appropriate option based on room temperature and their baby’s comfort. Sleep sacks generally range from about 0.5 TOG, which is designed for warmer environments, up to 2.5 TOG or higher for colder temperatures. Selecting the right TOG matters because babies can easily become too warm during sleep, so matching the sleep sack to the room temperature helps keep them comfortable and can support better, more restful sleep. As a general guideline, 0.5 TOG works well for warmer weather or room temperatures around 75°F and above. A 1.0 TOG sleep sack is typically suited for moderate temperatures between 68–75°F. For cooler rooms between 61–68°F, a 2.5 TOG option provides more insulation, while anything above 2.5 TOG is usually intended for colder environments below 61°F. From personal experience, I’ve found that all of my kids tend to sleep best in a room kept around 70–71°F while wearing a 1.0 TOG sleep sack.
